In Easter tradition, the Easter Bunny (or Rabbit or Hare) originally played the “role of a judge, evaluating whether children were good or disobedient.” If a child were deemed “good,” the Easter Bunny would deliver coloured eggs, candy or small toys. Who knows what it delivered to the naughty ones, but I suspect it’s that special something our dog likes to eat from our backyard after the snow melts each spring.
In any case, the tradition lives on, and here in Durham Region, the Bunny is hosting numerous fun events for kids of all ages! One of the greatest things about living in Durham Region is that each community is so vibrant and full of events that it’s easy to stay entertained.
When we moved to Brooklin a few years ago, one of the first things we did was attend the Optimist Club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. It used to be held outside in the park, and although it was chilly and damp, the children of the community absolutely loved running through the field collecting plastic eggs to exchange for treats. The event quickly became something our kids look forward to just as much as the Spring Fair here each year.
