Happy Birthday, Canada! Our nation turns 149 years old on July 1, 2016, and there’s lots of celebrating to be done. Here are a few ideas of events happening in our area.
The Town of Whitby celebrations are taking place at Victora Fields, 345 Watson St. West, from noon until the fireworks display at dark. There will be live entertainment (including Whitby Idol), food vendors, rock climbing, face painting, a petting zoo, bouncy castles, and more. The fireworks are sponsored by Community Connection, a non-profit organization that provides affordable recreation, leisure and special interest programs in Whitby and Brooklin.
The fun in Ajax will be at Ajax Downs, 50 Alexander’s Crossing, from noon to 10:30pm. Live entertainment includes the Drifters. There will be great family fun – face painting, mobile video gaming, horse and carriage rides, food trucks, cultural performances, and more.
And for Canada Day in Oshawa, head to Lakeview Park, 55 Lakeview Park Ave, between 2-10pm. Lots of live entertainment, family fun, a petting zoo, midway, face painitng, food vendors, community displays and more. And of course, since it’s Lakeview, there’s the beach zone where you will find a volleyball tournament, sand castle workshops, and fireworks at 10pm.
Of course we’ll be here for you at the Whitby Centrum as well. If those thunderstorms do start rolling in, you can always pop in to Landmark Cinemas to check out a film with the kids (The BFG and Tarzan both open on Canada Day). Or have some indoor family fun at
Whatever you get up to, have a fantastic day! Happy Canada Day!
